Kolkata Metro to Enforce ₹250 Fine for Crossing Safety Line
Starting June 1, 2025, Kolkata Metro will impose a penalty of ₹250 on passengers who cross the yellow safety line on station platforms. This new rule is part of a larger initiative aimed at enhancing commuter safety and promoting discipline among passengers.
The yellow line, prominently marked on all platforms, indicates the safe distance that commuters must maintain from the edge while waiting for a train. Despite repeated announcements and visible warnings, many passengers continue to ignore this boundary and move dangerously close to the tracks. In light of such persistent behaviour, metro authorities have decided to adopt a stricter stance.
Crossing the yellow line will now be classified as an act of “creating nuisance” under metro regulations. From June 1, special enforcement drives conducted across stations to monitor compliance, and violators will be fined on the spot.
